Ronnie Fernández #isRed

Ronnie Fernández, a Chilean-born player, was today officially announced as the Red Giants' second latest import to face the Malaysian League for the 2024/2025 season.

The 32-year-old striker started as a development player for Santiago Wanderers FC's under-19 team before being promoted to the club's first team squad in January 2010. Ronnie's talent has always been trusted by Santiago Wanderers FC, where he often returned to the club despite playing for several other clubs throughout his professional career. For the record, he has played in 92 games, scored 22 goals and made 10 assists for Santiago Wanderers FC.

Ronnie afterward flew to Saudi Arabia, where he played in the Saudi Pro League, King's Cup, and Saudi Crown Prince's Cup with Al-Fayha FC from the 2017/2018 season until 2020/2021. Ronnie's first year overseas was successful, as he won the title of the Saudi Pro League Top Scorer with 13 goals. In total, he managed to contribute 25 goals in 59 matches while with Al-Fayha FC.

He also played with Al Nasr Dubai in the 2018/2019 season. Among Ronnie's sweetest achievements with this club was when he scored the opening goal for the current team against Arsenal FC in the month on 26 March 2019.

Furthermore, this 179cm tall player has played for Bolivia's legendary club, Bolivar La Paz, which is located in South America, for the 2016/2017 and 2023 seasons. Ronnie has scored 18 goals from 26 games, helping his team win the Copa de la División Professional and finishing second place in Primera División 2023.

Ronnie has also worn the shirt of his birth country, Chile, in the South American continent's Group A World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil in March 2022. He has also been called up to join La Roja (The Red One), the Chile squad's nickname, for international friendlies against Korea Republic, Tunisia, and Ghana in June.

The year 2024/2025 will be Ronnie's first season playing in Malaysia, "This is my first time coming to Southeast Asia. I am very excited to be a part of Selangor FC. All I know about this big club is its great history and the fans who are enthusiastic in supporting the team. I will give my best to help the team in having the best season for 2024/2025 in the Malaysian League and ACL 2," said Ronnie.

Tan Cheng Hoe, Selangor FC's Head Coach, feels that Ronnie's goal-scoring ability would boost the team's attack line this season, "Ronnie is capable of scoring goals especially in the inside of the box. He has experience playing in several countries as a 'target man' in his career, this will boost the strength of the team. I hope that Ronnie will quickly adapt himself with the players and solve the problems in the attacking area last season."

What is a club without the supporters? Ronnie stated that he was looking forward to meeting the Red Giants fans. He is ready to bring happiness to the club and Selangor FC fans.

Selangor FC hopes that Ronnie Fernández can strengthen the attack line of the Red Giants team for the 2024/2025 Malaysian League season and the 2024 ACL 2 competition. Welcome, Ronnie!

Ronnie Fernández is the second latest player to officially be part of main squad after Selangor FC introduced defender Umarbek Eshmurodov yesterday.
